The Blues Of Freeborn Women
. Noya Sol is taking her time. One of the characteristics of classic blues, that 1920's women's blues, is its sense of time: it is beat-driven music, sung slowly. Not an easy trick to pull, and one which too often gets lost in the electric white blues which has been dominating much of the blues world for some decades now.

But Noya Sol goes straight to the source, and when she turns to sing Deep Moaning Blues, by the Mother of the Blues, Ma Rainey, she takes her time in that same natural, laid-back manner that put classic blues at the basis of 20th century popular music.

The time which her musical combo opens up for her, she fills with a warm, deep, penetrating voice – precisely the type of voice required to sing the real, deep and penetrating blues of the great classic blues singers.
